NiSource Safety & Health Coordinator 2 in LaPorte, Indiana

Ensure/ coordinates compliance with all OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policy procedure requirements for safety and health activities.

Responsible for protecting the health and safety of employees, contractors and visitors.

Routinely performs facility inspections in order to assess compliance.

Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of facility health and safety programs.

Develop, coordinate, and perform required facility training.

Develop, review and revise required plans and documents.

Provides expert regulatory information and advice to the facilities as needed. Acts as the Companys representative for on-site interaction with regulatory agencies.

Responsible for business planning functions related to the Energy Delivery and Electric Generation compliance programs including the development and submittal of budget initiatives and management of approved OM and capital budgets.

Responsible for various regulatory reports and submittals.

Organizes and maintains facility compliance records.

Investigates collisions, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards or uncomfortable conditions in the work place. Lead and/or participates in root cause analysis and post incident investigations. Where the investigation determines changes in work practices are necessary, oversee the development and implementation of those changes and corrective actions.

Develop and sustain working relationships.

Develop and implement policies adhering to federal, state and local regulations.

Coordinate and monitor various health and safety programs.

Stay knowledgeable of developments in the field.

Perform routine field observations of work crews.

Collaborate with the trainers to implement safe work practices into the training curriculum.

Observe and potentially teach a portion of the training classes.

Use effective interpersonal communication techniques.

Communicate effectively with various departments throughout NIPSCO and NiSource.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Provide incident/crash data and statistics to local management representatives.

Demonstrated ability to work interactively and cooperatively on teams within a matrix organization.

Strong sense of urgency; self-direction and leadership are a necessity.

Support operations from a safety and training standpoint in targeted areas of development.

College degree in occupational health and safety, safety management, safety science, safety administration or equivalent work experience directly related to safety positions.

Experience in the electric utility industry, specifically field operations or power plants.

A minimum of three years field experience in regulatory compliance work is greatly preferred.

Working knowledge of state and federal regulatory programs.

Proficiency with basic computer tools such as spreadsheets and word processing software.

Ability to obtain required professional licenses and certifications.

Ability to work independently, show strong problem-solving capabilities and a willingness to use professional judgment in decision making.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with employees at all levels of the organization and with regulators.

Ability to integrate business and regulatory needs, execute business forecasts and manage a budget.

Ability to work cooperatively with staff from other business segments.
