The Life Safety Code CAD Technician (LSCCT) is Medxcel’s resource for modifying and updating life and fire safety drawings, as well as other formatted drawing types, for the compliance of NFPA 101-Life Safety Code©, Federal, State, and local Fire and Life Safety regulatory requirements as well as Accreditation Organizations: CMS, The Joint Commission, DNV, etc. The LSCCT will perform duties for Medxcel throughout the assigned working location of the Central Office - Indianapolis, IN. This position includes 25% - 50% travel, with overnight stay required. The LSCCT will support the integrity of the CAD drawing library for maintaining life safety code compliance. The LSCCT will review and follow Medxcel’s means of cataloging, standardizing and updating/modifying life safety CAD drawings as required.

The LSCCT will support Medxcel’s Life Safety Code Specialists (LSCS) in the field or at the Central Office in the review of field and/or final drawings for each facility to ensure accuracy and code compliance including providing applicable changes to the drawings. The LSCCT will work with the Manager of Facilities Drawings, Manager of Life Safety Compliance, and/or the Director of Facilities Support in the development of reports to indicate deficiencies, share findings, and provide potential resolutions in a professional manner to educate and bring about best possible outcomes. The LSCCT provides consultation, education, and technical assistance to Medxcel’s operations, Ascension Ministry Facilities, and Commercial Facilities, to ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code© and its referenced publications. The LSCCT will document all observations in a thorough, accurate manner utilizing applicable Medxcel technology and providing adequate indication of non-compliance where appropriate.

Life Safety CAD/Drawing Library Management

  • Create life and fire safety CAD drawings for new Medxcel, Ascension, or commercial clients as requested

  • Modify and update life and fire safety CAD drawings and other formatted drawing types for accuracy based on communication and field updates from Medxcel’s Life Safety Code Specialists

  • Review life safety CAD drawings for compliance to regulatory requirements

  • Follow established processes & policies for cataloging and maintaining CAD drawing library

  • Ensure a seamless delivery of drawings to facilities

  • Operational Support Management

  • When required, provide field support in updating life safety drawings

  • Perform initial review of existing life safety drawings for accuracy and code compliance

  • Communicate applicable changes back to the team

  • Develop reports to indicate deficiencies and provide potential resolutions to Life Safety Code Specialists and other compliance team members

  • Communicate potential findings to the Life Safety Code CAD Manager for code compliance liability potential


  • Associates degree in Architecture, Engineering, Drafting or related field

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred


  • NFPA Certified Life Safety Specialist (CLSS-HC) for Health Care Facility Managers certification OR the ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire


  • 3+ years of AutoCAD experience as it relates to floor plan documentation

  • Experience with Autodesk REVIT preferred

  • Experience with CAFM software such as IBM Trirega© or Archibus© preferred

  • Experience in supporting CAD/BIM drawing libraries for multiple facilities preferred

  • Experience in engineering, fire protection, building maintenance, building construction, architectural science, safety, or related preferred

  • Experience in Life Safety Code© compliance activities preferred

  • Experience with oversized printer(s)/plotter(s) & scanner(s) preferred

  • Experience working in a corporate environment preferred

  • Maintain current knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care standards including the Life Safety Code© (NFPA 101) and other relevant NFPA standards and requirements
