Hill-Rom Environmental Health & Safety Associate in Batesville, Indiana
JOB SUMMARY: Perform technical duties in programs related to industrial hygiene, environmental issues, health issues, fire protection engineering, biological safety, and/or closely related EHS areas while supporting the Batesville Indiana Manufacturing Organization. Performs technical work under the supervision of EHS Manager and supports the implementation and evaluation of programs designed to minimize risks to people and the environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Other duties may be assigned:
Assist with hazard evaluations in the workplace.
Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure they follow safety standards, corporate governance policies/procedures and government regulations.
Work with EHS Manager to mitigate hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
Under direction of the EHS Manager, evaluate programs on workplace safety and health.
Investigate incidents and accidents to identify root causes and how they might be prevented in the future.
Assist in the development and implement the corporate EHS management system with a focus on ISO methodologies.
Drive the environmental compliance program with a focus on reducing environmental risk across the organization.
Assist with policy/program designs that result in prevention of injury or illness to workers and damage to the environment.
Conduct training on a variety of safety and environmental topics.
Conduct both routine and special inspections as directed by EHS Manager to verify and identify work areas for potential health and safety hazards.( i.e. may examine machinery and equipment to ensure that they meet appropriate safety regulations, may perform PPE assessments, or may perform a variety of environmental audits such as checking that hazardous materials are stored correctly).
Work with EHS Manager to help mitigate ergonomic risks and improve Safety process.
Ability to recognize and correct safety-related hazards and targeted safety trends.
Participate on or lead facility safety teams.
Create monthly safety lessons on a variety of topics.
Collect and enter data into our EHS system management system.
Assist in the formation of JSAs.
Complete analyses to determine injury/illness trends. Develop strategies to create a zero-harm work environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering and/or closely related subject - Must
Minimum of 3-5 years practical experience – focus on environmental regulations a plus
Must have or be able to pursue EHS Certification. (Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, etc.)
Experience in the medical device industry is a plus
Knowledge of regional EHS regulations and extensive practical experience in the installation of EHS management systems across multiple locations is required
Strong management and communication skills are required
